Polylactic Acid filament, bio-based (made from corn starch).
The raw material is a PLA plastic thread, packaged as filament spools. The machine deposits successive layers of plastic according to the final height of the object.
PLA plastic is a very cost-effective solution for making all kinds of prototypes. Particularly strong, it is also suitable for repairing objects and giving them a second life, for example by replacing a broken part.
With PLA filament deposition, we can reach a layer thickness of 0.10 mm (= 1 mm / 10), which provides a good balance between the aesthetic quality of the part and manufacturing time.
PLA has a glass transition temperature of 60°C. Its melting temperature is between 175 and 220°C.
The Young’s modulus of the most commonly used PLA is around 2.7 to 16 GPa. Its tensile strength is around 50 MPa.
PLA is used as a base for special filaments, which you can discover on our site when making your quote request. A wide variety of solutions is possible: wood, carbon, glass fiber, oyster, bamboo...
